Your Next Stamp Release Preview: Crazy for Christmas

Heading into the last day of previews. Tomorrow all the wonderful stamp and die sets arrive 11am EDT at Your Next Stamp and also there is an instagram hop to celebrate the release starting at 11am.

The ‘Crazy For Christmas’ stamp set has to be my favourite from this release. The puppies are super cute and I just couldn’t choose which image to stamp and colour. So I stamped and coloured each adorable puppy.

The techniques in these 2 cards are similar. However the first one is a simpler way to approach layout with a little bit of masking and ink blending. The second card gets into adding more complex masking and partial die cutting.

Get the look:

  • Start by laying out all the images in a stamp positioner so you get a sense of what your scene will look like. Similar to how I handled it in Image A below.

  • The key to masking is to stamp the things you want in the front first, mask them, then stamp the other critters and things that will be behind. Once you’ve done it a few times it really does become easy.

  • Make sure all images are masked and then ink blend distress inks on the background.

  • Colour in image and die cut with stitched rectangle die.

  • Emboss sentiment onto red card stock, cut it out.

  • Layer sentiment and image onto A2 card base.

Get the look:

  • Start by laying out all the images in a stamp positioner so you get a sense of what your scene will look like (Image A). In this case the card stock used is 4 1/4” x 11” and I stamped on the right hand side because I wanted to fold card so it is a single layer card.

  • The key to masking is to stamp the things you want in the front first, mask them, then stamp the other critters and things that will be behind. Once you’ve done it a few times it really does become easy.

  • Once scene is stamped partially die cut what will make up the partial front panel (Image B). I have found that using small die cut plates make this fairly easy to do. (Also die cut through a second 4 1/4” x 5.5” panel of card. You will see why later).

  • Colour the scene

  • Flip the panel so what you are looking at will eventually be the inside of the card (Image C & D) Ink blend distress inks and splatter with silver paint.

  • This is where the second die cut panel is useful. Adhere it on the inside to cover up the bleed through of the Copic Markers. (As shown in image C & D). Also helps add strength to the front panel.

  • Emboss sentiment and add finishing touches to the card.
