Your Next Stamp Fun Folds Series: Day 6

So typically I am much more of a single layer kinda card making gal. So the Fun Folds series at YNS was certainly a challenge for me. I started out by taking a look in the internet world to see what type of folding card’s are out there. My goal was to create something that still played on my scene building strength and also wasn’t overly complicated or fussy. I happened to come across Jennifer McGuires Pop Up Shadow Box Tutorial from a few years back and thought perfect. Jennifer McGuire also just recently created a new Easy Shadow Box tutorial. Both of these tutorials are great for getting you started with shadow box cards.

What I really love about these types of shadow box cards is that they create great depth and potential movement in the card.

Get the Look:

  • Need 2 pieces of 5 1/2”x 6 1/4” pieces of card stock panels. From both ends of 6 1/4” side score in at 1/2” and 1”, these make the accordion folds that attach at the side. For visual to see how to create the shadow box card check out Jennifer McGuire’s videos; Pop Up Shadow Box Tutorial and Easy Shadow Box Tutorial.

  • Die cut a window in one of the panels that you want to be the front. (I also cut a 2nd panel with slightly smaller opening to go behind the front panel opening.)

  • Decorate your back panel. I chose to use a cloud template, cut out from the Puffy Cloud Borders, and blue ink.

  • Stamp, colour and die cut or fussy cut out butterflies.

  • Die cut and layer 3 of the thanks die cut out of white heavy weight card stock. Using hill side die cut out several hills.

  • Now that you have all the elements you can layout your card. Position where you would like your hills and butterflies on your card.

  • For anything that you want on the middle plane, attach the element to a piece of clear acetate that can be sandwiched between the accordion folds.

  • Hold front panel over the back panel to make sure you are happy with placement of all your element’s. When happy glue everything into place.

  • Finally glue accordion side panels together.
