YNS Challenge #143: Blocks
/Time for a new challenge over at Your Next Stamp. The theme is ‘Blocks’. Anything that is square shape counts; windows, frames, one block, many blocks, however you interpret blocks. Me, I took the theme quite literally and built some overlapping blocks with some blending and basic masking.
Get the Look:
All this card requires is a little measuring and masking.
PREP WORK: Use a square die to die cut out a 1 1/2” square mask, out of masking paper. I actually cut out a couple so if one got too inky I could replace it with another one.
This is a slightly odd size card because I made the measurements work for 5 overlapping 1 1/2” ink blended squares.
Cut a piece of card stock that measures 3 1/2” x 6 1/2”. It is like a short slim line card.
Lightly pencil in lines 1/2” from the top, bottom and 2 sides. This sets up a margin which helps position your square mask for ink blending.
Mark off the square positions lightly with pencil. This allows you to position the monsters before your ink blend square.
Image A: I have noted all the spacing of the squares for reference. Basically there is a 1/2” between each square.
Position, stamp and mask monsters.
At the top, left corner, 1/2” position, place the square mask. (Make sure to erase any showing pencil lines).
Ink blend the square.
Remove mask and align for the next square, repeat till all squares are ink blended. There will a nice overlap where the squares meet.
Remove monster masks and colour images with your favourite colouring medium.
Stamp on a few splats as embellishments.
Mount onto a card base that is 3 3/4” x 6 3/4”.
