Jane's Doodles Challenge #13: On the Beach

The new Jane Doodle’s Challenge is On the Beach. Perfect timing, it is very hot outside and less than a week until the kids are out of school. (I say out of school, more like done distance learning for now.)

This is almost a one layer card. The scene, other than the large palm tree, is all on one piece of card stock. Even the divisions between the sections are embossed dies instead of die cut. By embossing the dies you keep it as a single sheet and also doesn’t cut the images.

Get the Look:

  • Jane’s Doodle Summer Icons are perfect for making a little beach scene.

  • All the hard work on this card is in the planning at the beginning.

  • First lay out where you want all of your images to go on a 3 1/4” x 8 1/4” card. By doing this it also helps you work out where you want to put the embossed die sections. I used little pencil marks to note where to place stamps when using a stamp positioned and also where to emboss the hill and wave dies.

  • Stamp and mask the characters. Stamp on another piece of card stock.

  • Position and emboss the hill and wave dies. At the same time die cut the dies out of masking paper.

  • Using the die cut masks and going section by section ink blend the background. Sand - antique linen distress ink and tiny amount of vintage photo around the edge. Waves - blend of distress inks in cracked pistachio, mermaid lagoon and peacock feathers. Think this colour blend, nicely mimics the colours of Caribbean waters.

  • Lastly using salty ocean distress ink and a cloud stencil to create clouds.

  • Colour the images in with your favourite medium of choice. Fussy cut out separately the stamped palm tree.

  • Position and glue on the palm tree, with it slightly overhanging the card panel.

  • Now glue scene panel to a 3 1/2” x 8 1/2” card base.
