Reindeer Mugs: Combining Old with New

I always love taking older or non seasonal stamps and dies from my stash and combining them with new Holiday stamps and dies to give everything a fresh look. For todays card I took several older elements Cozy Cuppa stamp and die, Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate III and Chloe Alpha Upper and Lower case Die Set and combined them with Reindeer Games and Christmas Stable stamps from the recent Holiday release.

 
 

Get the Look:

  • Start by die cutting a piece of Kraft card stock with the Slimline Scallop Die Set and also die cut the Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate III from masking paper.

  • Lay the masking paper over one end of the slim line die cut Kraft card stock at an angle. Using Snowy White pigment ink blend the ink over the mask so it fades out before it reaches the edges of the mask. Remove mask and repeat at other end of slim line piece.

  • Stamp and die cut the mug from the Cozy Cuppa stamp and die set. I stamped the mugs in Scarlett Rose, Evergreen and Alloy inks to compliment the alcohol marker colours I chose. (Did you know that LDRS inks are alcohol marker safe which makes for a great alternative from using black to stamp with all the time. I love that the outline of the mugs are similar in colour to internal colour).

  • With simple masking such as a post it note, mask off the edge of the mugs and stamp your favourite reindeers from Reindeer Games and Christmas Stable.

  • Using your favourite way to colour, colour in the reindeers and mugs.

  • To give the mugs different heights on the card I backed one mug with 3 additional die cut pieces and another with 2 additional die cut pieces of card stock.

  • Last part of the card is to create the sentiment. Using the Chloe Alpha Upper and Lower case Die Set, die cut the letters to spell joy. Since these letters have an internal pattern I adhered small strips of kraft card stock to backside of letters, allowing the pattern to be kraft. I then chose to back the letters with 2 additional die cut pieces of card stock for strength and dimension.

  • With all the elements completed is it simply a matter of laying the pieces out on the card base in a way that makes you happy.
