Doodle Flowers: Creating Depth with Stamps and Dies

First off Happy New Year. Hard to believe it is 2023. On occasion you see a stamp or die set and you instantly know the card you want to make. That’s what happened when I saw the Doodle Flower Dies from the recent LDRS November Collection. I immediately thought back to the Wild Flowers Slimline stamp set released last spring and knew that I want to combined the two sets together. The stamp floral and the die floral have a similar whimsical feel that work well together. With the Wild Flowers Slimline stamp set I created a subtle tone on tone background for softness and depth behind the Doodle Flower Dies. I had a hard time deciding how to handle the sentiment because I didn’t want to cover any of the vibrant flowers. Can you see where I snuck the sentiment in? Found the perfect small sentiment in the Spring Gift Tag Stack stamp set that fit on a die cut leaf and then tucked it behind a flower.

Get the Look:

  • Since all of the dies are smallish I find this project is a great way to use up leftover card stock scraps. To start basically pick out the flowers and greenery dies you wish to use from the Doodle Flower Dies. Then simply set yourself up cranking the dies thru with lots and lots of colour cardstock. I use little trays that I put each flower or greenery type in. Using the back of the package guides glue the flowers together. For some elements I choose to layer to get 2 tones. I always build lots of elements so that I have options to play with when laying out my floral arrangement. Plus this way you also have some flowers left for next time.

  • On a slimline 3 1/2” x 8 1/2” piece of card stock blend Key Lime and Little Boy Blue ink for a soft background. Stamp the Wild Flowers in Little Boy Blue ink repeatedly across and over the ink blended background.

  • Now for the fun part, working out how you want to arrange your flowers. Once happy with the layout, I usually take a picture for reference and then either use a wide low tack tape or Press n Seal placed over the floral arrangement to keep it all together. The arrangement can now be manipulated as a unit and glue and foam tape be applied to the back before adhering to the background card.

  • For a sentiment I didn’t want to cover up the floral arrangement. So instead I found a small sentiment in the Spring Gift Tag Stack stamp set that fit perfectly on a die cut leaf. Stamped hello sentiment in embossing ink and heat set with white embossing powder on the die cut leaf. Then tucked the sentiment behind a flower. Love ‘Hello’ sentiment because the inside of the card can easily be customized with a sentiment for any occasion when needed.

  • Lastly adhered the slimline card to a card base.

Hopefully I have given you a few tips and ideas on how to use some of your floral dies and stamps. Happy Papercrafting : )
