Your Next Stamp Release Preview: Tweet Spring Birds

As soon as I saw this stamp set I knew I wanted to make a slim line card. I know slim line cards are trendy right now, but I have always enjoyed that they are a different footprint to play with. Some stamp sets just lean into the long form factor of a slim line card. With so many cute birds and branches in this set a tall card allowed me to layer in several sets of branches. It’s kinda like a birdie apartment building with each branch its own apartment or telling its little story.

Get the look:

  • Overall this is fairly simple card to make. The hard part is really narrowing down which of the many cute birdies you want to use and where you want to place them.

  • To begin with stamp and colour in a couple of sets of the branches. Die cut each branch and then die cut 2 more sets of branches in brown card stock. Then layer and glue the branches while offsetting the brown card stock layer to create a drop shadow. These really give depth to the card.

  • Placing the branches on a 3 1/4” x 8 1/4” card panel helps to decide where to position the birds and friends. (Do not attach branches at this point). Use little pencil marks to note where to stamp the birds and friends..

  • Remove branches, stamp and mask the characters.

  • Die cut the YNS Puffy Border Cloud out of card stock and use it as a stencil to lightly blend salty ocean distress ink to make clouds.

  • Remove masks and colour your birds with your favourite method of colouring.

  • Now add panel to a 3 1/2” x 8 1/2” card base.

  • Position and glue on your tree branches. Because the branch shadow is offset, the branch can easily overlap birds which gives an amazing sense of depth and looks like the birds are nestled on the tree branch.

  • Finally cut off the excess tree branches that hang off the edge of the card.
