Jane's Doodles Challenge #12: Use a Die
/The new Jane Doodle’s Challenge is ‘Use a Die’. Now I really love stand alone dies, because they can be very versatile. Not only do they create the die cut shape but they can create an embossed impression, or use them as stencils etc. Combining dies with your favourite stamps is also an awesome way to create a little scene. And that is what I have chosen to do today.
Get the Look:
This card has an open window element which is based on a technique I saw Jennifer McGuire do quite a while back. Of course her video tutorials are such a great way to learn and full of tips, so I’ve linked it here: Split Card Design.
For this card start with the card base. Using an A2 card panel and a cloud border die, cut the clouds into the top half of front panel and bottom half of the panel. Cut out the portion that still joins pieces, along the edge of the card. The clouds will flap about separately now.
Using a rainbow die create a rainbow. Most likely you will need to apply your rainbow arches to a base.
Position the rainbow where you like it and also so that it touches the upper and lower cloud. Glue rainbow in place connecting the clouds and making the front panel a single piece again.
Keep interior white or optionally you can add a 41/4”x51/2” coloured card stock to the inside, so the rainbow and clouds stand out from the inside of card.
Ink and stamp chameleons. Then clean and position the clear chameleon stamps on the card where the final coloured images will be going. Use this as a reference for where to colour the rainbow stripes on the chameleons.
Colour the chameleons. I used a single colour copic for each stripe and then went back in with with grey to create a little bit of shading.
Fussy cut out chameleons and attach to card using foam tape.
For a final splash of rainbow add a little bit of colourful bling.
Challenge Details:
Pretty sure we all have dies of some sort in our stash. Find that shape or background that you haven’t used in a while. Add another layer to your card by embossing, or for a fun background for your critters or florals. Hope you join us for the Use a Die Challenge over the next few weeks. Can’t wait to see how you use your dies. You could be one of the top picks. You have until June 23rd at 11pm CET (or 5pm ET if you live in my area) to enter the challenge. Looking forward to seeing what you create.
