Winter Scene 2 Ways

Generally speaking I am a one design, one card kinda gal. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with the layout and the style, but once finished I’m ready to move onto the next idea. I completely get that the process of creating that first card is where you work out all those oops and oh no moments. Making a second card is generally quicker and logically makes sense since you have all that stuff out anyway, but still for me the thrill is in making the initial card. Or a least I thought it was! In todays case, I created the same scene but switched up the media and now I have 2 same but different cards.

Get the look:

  • In order to get the 2 different looks I chose to stamp on Neenah Solar White and Neenah Desert Storm card stock.

  • Using a little bit of masking I created the scene with Winter Woodland Wonders from Avery Elle. (Looks like this stamp set has been discontinued but I’m betting you have some really cute woodland critters and some birch trees somewhere in your stash you can use.)

  • Now I like to ink blend my backgrounds before I start my colouring. My thinking is that I’d rather mess up now than after I’ve spent lots of time colouring.

  • And of course, I lied I said a little bit of masking, but I blended a distress ink and distress oxide backgrounds which means masking. So what I mean’t was little bit of masking for the scene and lots of masking for the blended background. Now you completely have other options if you don’t like masking; die cut your images and lay them overtop the inked background.

  • For the card that is on Neenah Solar White I chose to colour with Copic markers and use original distress inks.

  • For the card that is on Neenah Desert Storm I chose to colour with pencils and create a distress oxide background. I also used SSS Falling Snow stencil with embossing paste for snow. (Think I should have waited longer for Oxides to dry because the embossing paste absorbed some of the colour. Decided to just go with it.)

  • Think the softer creamier look of the Oxides works well with the pencils and love the brightness of the regular distress inks with Copics.

  • For the sentiment I also went same but different. Honey Bee’s Fa La La stamp and die set give you so many options for several festive sentiments. I used the holly jolly die for the pencil coloured card and embossed holly jolly for Copic coloured card.

  • Finally I used some frame dies to give the backgrounds a finished look and then added them to card bases.
