Your Next Stamp: New Birthday Gnomies and Die Cutting Thru a Card Base
/Hope you have had a chance to check out the new YNS September birthday celebration release. Today I get to highlight the recently released ‘Birthday Gnomies’ stamp set.
Thought it would be fun to take advantage of the hole in the centre of the mini sprinkle panel and have it open all the way thru to the inside of the card. Sylvie another YNS design team member created something during preview week that gave a similar look of peaking into the card, without actually cutting a hole.
Get the Look:
If I know what direction I am heading with my card I like to organize all the components before I get into the fun part of colouring.
So first die cut the Mini Slim Sprinkle Panel out of white cardstock.
Create a 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” card base which will fit the mini slim sprinkle panel perfectly with a small border.
Next in order to create the hole through the card base line the sprinkle panel ontop and trace through circle with a pencil. Find a circle die that is close in size to the pencilled circle.
This is where it gets tricky. I have a standard size die cutting machine so I can’t open the card base and run it through, it is too wide. So I need to run it through closed, but I don’t want to cut into the back panel of the card base. So I added a piece of thin card between front panel and back panel of card base. Admittedly it was a bit tough to get through the die cut machine. If I was to do it again, think I would just build the card base out of two pieces of card, so that card thickness and fit wouldn’t be an issue with the die cutter.
So after that very long winded explanation hopefully you have a hole in your card base.
A stamp positioner helps to line up the birthday cake through the hole for stamping. Alternatively you can trace a circle though the hole to the inside of the card and stamp cake in centre of the pencilled circle.
Now would be a good time to erase any pencil marks.
Colour your cake. Stamp and colour your Gnomies. Die cut the images. I chose to back the Gnomies with 3 additional die cut pieces of card stock for strength and dimension, but foam tape works well as well.
White emboss sentiment onto black cardstock and add over the cake.
Lastly adhere the Gnomies and embellishments such as the Firefly Magic Sparkle Gumdrops
