LDRS Shiny, Sparkly Modern Geometric Cover Plates

I don’t know about you but I always admire the wonderful cards people create with coverplate dies, there is always a simplicity and elegance that they bring to a card. These cards were inspired by the beautiful patterns in the modern geometric cover plate dies. Bonus they layer so beautifully no matter what order you seem to put them in, trust me I couldn’t make up my mind. These cards also gave me the chance to try out a new set of pearlescent watercolours that I recently bought. Hey no worries if you don’t have pearlescent watercolours, add a little shimmer powder directly to your watercolours or simply take some favourite sparkly paper and use that as the background. And for something different I went with black.

Get the Look:

  • Before getting into anything else, start with the watercolouring. You can prep the other components while watercolouring dries. Grab some black watercolour paper slightly larger than 8 1/2” by 5 1/2”, big enough to eventually cut out 2 panels 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”. Using you water colour medium of choice create a blend of rainbow colours. Note you will want the rainbow stripes to go horizontally accross the wider side of the card stock. Set aside to dry or heat set it.

Prep Work:

  • Die cut the Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 1 die cut once out of black card stock and once out of glitter black card stock. Since we will be doing some inlay later on with glitter panel, I place masking tape or paper on the back side of the die cut to hold all the pieces in place.

  • Die cut the Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 2 & Coverplate 3 dies, once each out of black card stock.

  • Using Chloe Alpha lowercase dies and coloured foil card stock, die cut the letters to spell the words’ hello’ and ‘hi!’ I chose to back the letters with 3 additional die cut pieces of black card stock for strength and dimension, but foam tape works well as well.

  • Stamp the sentiment ‘Thank you for everything’ from Tropical Floral Stamp Set in a black embossable ink on grey cardstock and clear emboss.

  • Make sure rainbow watercolour panel is dry before this step. Cut the watercolour panel to create 2 panels 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”. Run one of these panels through the die cut machine with the Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 1 die. Again use masking tape or paper on the back side to hold all the pieces in place. The second panel leave as 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”.

  • All the components are prepped it is now a matter of pulling the cards together

CARD 1

  • Start by adhering the Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 1 die cut out of black card stock to A2 black card base with either a tape run all over or A2 size adhesive sheet. Makes it easy to pop in the matching rainbow die cut pieces. Using the matching die cut rainbow piece, slowly peel back the masking paper/tape and inlay the pieces into the frame. Run a bone folder over the top to make sure everything is adhered well. Lastly add your foiled letters for the sentiment ‘hello’. Hopefully you can see the shine, it's hard to capture in a photo. I used a flashlight below to try capture it.

CARD 2

  • Trim about a 1/8” off of the Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 1 rainbow die cut panel on all 4 sides and attach to grey A2 card base. Same as in card 1 use an tape runner/adhesive sheet to make it easy to pop in the matching black glitter Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 1 die cut pieces.

  • Using foam tape pop up the ‘Thank you for everything’ sentiment.

CARD 3

  • Take the 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” pearlized rainbow water colour panel and adhere to an A2 size card base. Layer and glue the the black glitter Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 1 with Modern Geometric A2 Coverplate 2 & Coverplate 3 dies in black card in which ever order you like (this may take a while). Adhere the cover plate dies over the rainbow panel. Lastly add your foiled letters for the sentiment ‘hi!’.
