Your Next Stamp Christmas Release: Tweet Shadow Box Card
/Here we are at day 4 of Your Next Stamp’s Christmas Release. This release Your Next Stamp is changing it up and showcasing the new products which are already available in the online store. There is also 2 chances to win a $25 egift card to Your Next Stamp online store. Details can be found at the end of the blog.
Out of all of the cards I have created for this release, this one has to be my favourite. These cute little birds are so perfect for a shadow box card. It took a little while, fiddling and some trial and error to make the shadow box dimensions work. I wanted the card to be the right size to fold and fit nicely inside an A2 envelope. But so worth the effort, I really love how the card turned out with the square shape on the front.
Get the Look:
SHADOW BOX:
In order to create the shadow box you need 2 identical 6 1/2” x 4 1/4” heavy weight card stock panels. With the exception that the front has a die cut square opening in it.
For the card I created I didn’t get the die perfectly centred so square opening is slightly skew one way on the front of the card. (Although I don’t think it is to noticeable).
So when I created a template for your reference, I thought it easier to actually start with a 8 1/2” x 4 1/4” panel and cut it down to 6 1/2”. This gives you a little wiggle room if you don’t perfectly position the square die. (Just make sure not to die cut less than 2” on left hand side).
Now with square die hole cut into the panel, all the score and cut measurements can be made from the edges of the square opening. I figured easier to show you the measurements, rather than explaining where the score and cut lines need to go. I have included a picture of where everything goes. Solid lines show where to score and dotted lines show where to cut for a final width of 6 1/2”
To create the back panel die cut a 2nd 6 /12” x 4 1/4” panel out of heavy weight card stock with no opening, and same location for score lines.
Also cut 5 1/2 x 1” and 5 1/2” x 3/8” strips that will be used to create little platforms for adhering critters, branches and ornaments. Score tabs on strips to be able to glue to back panel sides.
Ink blend rustic wilderness, mowed lawn and twisted citron on the background and smaller panels.
Stamp the pine branch from the Tweet Festive Greetings with Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide on the background panel.
Stamp the sentiment ‘Holiday Greetings’ from Paws, Love, Joy on the front panel.
All the shadow box components are now finished.
Stamp, colour and die cut the critters and ornaments from Tweet Festive Greetings. (I also chose to back them with a 2nd diecut for strength).
Die cut out the Pine Tree Branch out of green card stock and add little bit of distress ink to the edge for some depth. Die cut the string from Tweet Festive Greetings out of silver card stock. (Again you can double up on the pine branches and string to make them more stable hanging in the box)
First adhere the 5 1/2 x 1” and 5 1/2” x 3/8” strips to the back panel sides using the scored side tabs. 1” strip at the bottom, 3/8” narrow strip at the top so it hides behind the top of the front panel.
The front panel nests over the back panel and glue sides over back panel sides.
Now that box is built and all the elements are complete it is a matter of positioning and gluing all of the pieces onto the platforms. I also used the branches as an area to glue the bird onto.
