Jane's Doodles Challenge #10: Stencilling

The new Jane Doodle’s Challenge is Stencilling. Love stencils there are so many options of how you can use them. They can be used to create the focal point on a card or they can be a subtle something in the background. Stencils are always a great way to add a background to an image, especially when you are not quite sure how you want to highlight your stamps. I find I’ve bought a lot of stencils over the years that are great at helping create a scene for my stamps.

Get the Look:

  • Option 1: I’ve chosen to make this card a one layer scene, so I stamped the cacti and pots with the help of some very simple masking. Then made sure all my images were masked in order to stencil over the top.

    1. Laid down my brick stencil and ink blended over with a combo of fired brick, rusty hinge and vintage photo distress inks. After removing stencil I lightly went over the bricks with antique linen and vintage photo to get the colour of mortar between the bricks.

    2. Laid down my pebble stencil and ink blended over with a combo of pumice stone and antique linen distress inks. After removing stencil I lightly went over the pebbles with antique linen to get colour in between pebbles.

    3. Now you can remove all the masks and colour the images in with medium of choice. I happened to use copics.

  • Option 2: An alternative to masking stamped images is to first stencil the background using the steps given in option 1. Then separately stamp, colour and cut out your images and lay them out on your stencilled background.

  • After scene is finished, die cut it with a circle die and layer it onto a slightly larger black die cut circle and frame scene with a gold die cut circle frame.

  • Add the sentiment. In this case a die cut thanks out of the same gold card stock as circle frame.

  • Finally add it all to a black A2 card base.
