Jane's Doodles Challenge #11: Birthday

The new Jane Doodle’s Challenge is about Birthdays. It is one of those themes that can go in any direction: balloons, birthday cakes or simply a fun card where you add a festive Birthday greeting. I chose to go that route.

Get the Look:

  • Overall this is a fairly simple card to make. It is basically laying out some stamped images and adding a sentiment. I used Jane’s Doodles ‘Ahoy’ and ‘Simon’ stamp sets to create my little scene and coloured with Copics.

  • However the background is “make your own glitter paper”. The great thing about “make your own glitter paper” is it allows you to make the paper any colour that you like.

  • Ink blend a favourite combination of inks. In this case I blended distress ink in tumbled glass, salty ocean, faded jeans and black soot on Neenah Solar White. Then spread a clear glitter paste, such as nuvo moonstone glimmer paste, over the top and let dry about an hour before die cutting.

  • Used a rectangle die to cut out the background. Stamped wave from Jane’s Doodles ‘Simon’ stamp set using ranger archival jet black ink. I’ve found that when stamping on glitter paper it is important to use a permanent ink, otherwise the ink tends to smear. Fussy cut out the top of the wave and used rectangle die for base so the glitter wave fit nicely with the background glitter rectangle.

  • Now it is a matter of pulling the elements together. I used foam tape to layer the elements up for depth, added them all to a navy A2 card base and blinged it up with some bubble embellishments.
