Jane's Doodles Challenge #6: Embossing

The new challenge at Jane’s Doodles is embossing. Hope you will join in the Embossing Challenge it is such a fun theme with so many options and techniques. I may have got carried away with the new challenge, I was having so much with the emboss resist technique.

Since Easter is just around the corner and it has a wonderful collection of small stamps I choose to use Jane’s Doodles Funny Bunny stamp set to create the emboss resist background.

Emboss Resist:

  • This one all starts with a fun technique of emboss resist. I played around with my Tombow markers, lots of water and a couple of kinds of cardstocks: Bristol Smooth and Tim Holtz watercolour paper to see which one I liked best.

  • First I picked out some more muted rainbow colour markers because I was making Easter cards after all.

  • Then I scribbled in rainbow order the Tombow markers on the card stocks and blended with water and a paint brush. I did find that the blend still showed faint lines on the Bristol smooth card stock, more than on the Tim Holtz paper.

  • Once the colours were blended and dried I added another layer of colour and again blended with water.

  • Once the card was nice and dry. I covered it with my embossing buddy and laid out the stamps for embossing. Bristol smooth I went with clear embossing and Tim Holtz watercolour paper I went with Judikins sparkly iridescent embossing powder. I also took my Versa mark pen and added some doodles, filled in areas and embossed.

  • Now the fun of adding additional water and sopping up colour with some paper towel. It leaves a very cool effect because darker colour is trapped under embossing. So pretty.

  • Die cut with an egg shaped die. I happened to use the Lawn Fawn Outside In Easter Egg.

Get the Look:

  • Chose to use little masking for the basket and little boy in bunny costume. Then coloured them in. (For a more detailed look at masking check out post on masking for challenge #4)

  • Die cut the Kraft card stock with same egg die.

  • Heat embossed the sentiment on a strip of black card stock.

  • Now it is a matter of laying all the elements out on the card base.

  • Inlaid the egg flat and popped up the little bunny boy and sentiment with foam tape.

Get the Look:

  • Again little bit of masking for the paint brush and paint can. Also drew in a spill and outlined in black so it all was matchy, matchy. (For a more detailed look at masking check out post on masking for challenge #4)

  • Coloured with the same Tombow marker colours as the background, added some shimmer, glossy accents and cut it out.

  • With egg die, cut out 2 additional card stock eggs. One to back the embossed egg and second to make the card backer.

  • Finally adhered the die cut eggs together and glued the paint can on the bottom.

  • Bonus the paint can made an awesome base to stand the egg up.
