Janes Doodles: Driving Home for Christmas and Puffy Embossing

You know sometimes, occasionally, once in a blue moon a card comes together exactly how you want it to. This is one of those cards. It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does there’s that little girl inside doing her happy dance. (Oh ya, love the happy dance.) And how adorable is this puppy from Janes Doodles “Driving home for Christmas” stamp set.  The set isn’t new and I have enjoyed it from a far stamp until I recently added it to my collection.

Also been enjoying using non traditional colours for this years holiday cards. Pink, green and teal are such a happy trio.

I have decided snow pattern paper is an awesome thing. Generally speaking using pattern paper is not really a strong suit of mine. I struggle with how to simply incorporate pattern paper into my card designs. However snowy pattern paper as a back drop, now that I will perfect this holiday season. It allows you to create some great winter backgrounds with no effort at all.

Get the look:

  • Start by choosing a pretty snowy pattern paper. Use a road die and hill dies to create background elements.

  • Colour in your focal image and fussy/die cut it out. Because I thought paper piercing the car windows with snowy paper or cutting out the stamped windows was way to finicky, I chose a similar colour marker and coloured windows around puppy. Then used a white gel pen to create snow. Although I did paper pierce a little piece of white card I cut from the hill die so that the snow hill can been seen thru car window.

  • Lay all the elements out on the A2 card base and glue them where you like them.

  • Holly Jolly sentiment I cut from Honey Bee’s Fa La La dies. I only used a single cardstock layer for the sentiment because I didn’t want it to be to thick for the snow I was going to add.

  • Final touch use a versamark pen to add the sticky ink around the die cut word and on the hat bobble. Cover with hero arts puffy embossing powder, emboss and you have instant snow.
