Easy Way to Create Skinny Strips

The Ellen Hutson Skinny Stripes die has been around for a while, but it is a new one to me. I love that you can make a very impactful background simply by using the die and some colourful colouring. I could have used colour paper but a) I figured it would be faster to colour strips and b) I certainly don’t have that many colours of card stock to pick from. Conveniently the skinny stripes die is the perfect size for your typical 3 1/2” x 8 1/2” slim line card.

The slim line card I coloured strips with Copics and the other card I blended distress ink onto the die cut strips.

The new Jane Doodle’s Challenge is ‘Use a Die’. Now I really love stand alone dies, because they can be very versatile. Not only do they create the die cut shape but they can create an embossed impression, or use them as stencils etc. Combining dies with your favourite stamps is also an awesome way to create a little scene. And that is what I have chosen to do today.

Very happy to be back joining the Your Next Stamp team. Thanks so much guys for having me. Love how playful and fun their stamps are to create with. Generally speaking I find masculine cards a tougher card to make. However if I go with a cleaner style and a simple colour palette it usual tends to work out. For this card I pulled out my wave panel die which I have used so many times. However this is the first time I have used the die to create a mask and paint the interior parts.

The tussled manes on these horses made me think of how free and wild horses look when running and playing in their paddocks. A slimline card was the perfect choice to show them off running wild with only the clouds behind them and green grass at their fee.
