3D Contrast with Ink Blending

3D Contrast with Ink Blending

Sharing a card with the new Summer Collection Dahlia Layering Dies . Isn't the die gorgeous. I just love Dahlia’s and paper ones are no exception. I paired it with the new Natural Granite 6x6 background stamp. I chose to ink blend all of the layers. I found the beauty when you are ink blending the petals and leaves is that you don't need to be precise or perfect. In fact I think that being a little hap hazard with the ink blending and doing a little of one colour here and little bit of another colour there, makes for the perfect layered look and it gives you amazing contrast and depth of colour that makes the flowers stand out - 3D like. You just can’t get the same effect with solid card stock. Kept the background simple with some basic embossed texture and chose to keep a sentiment off the front so as not to take away from the gorgeous flowers.

Tropical Shadow Box

Tropical Shadow Box

I love shadow box cards; they stand up well, the frame border creates perfect white space around a scene and the layers provide wonderful depth to the scene. The Gone to Maui Exclusive Kit with its adorable critters and elements combine perfectly with the beach scene from Scenic Backgrounds II to create the cutest little shadow box card. This type of shadow box is fairly simple to build once you’ve worked out the dimensions. The first time I made this shadow box it took a little while, fiddling and some trial and error to make the dimensions work to fold and fit into an A2 size envelope. Lucky for you I have all the dimensions all worked out and laid out below.

LDRS: Pattern Heart Strips

LDRS: Pattern Heart Strips

Have you started on Valentine’s Day cards yet? Sam here playing with the new Strip Dies. The new release is now available in the LDRS shop and in addition to all the new fun playful stamps, there are these super useful dies for creating strips of different sizes and widths. So with the addition of the heart die from the Slimline Scallop Die Set, I took my colourful strips and turned them into these fun little graphic hearts. The final card ended up being 5”x7” because I felt the 6 hearts looked to crammed together on a smaller A2 size card base.

LDRS: Dahlia See Through Card

Having made so many wintery cards over the past few months, I thought I would change direction and create something a little bit springy. Todays card features the Dahlia stamp set and Modern Geometric Coverplates I & III. Since I’ve received this set of gorgeous Modern Geometric Coverplates I have been wanting to make a see through card with them. The question was do I use 1, 2 or all 3 of them. In the end I decided on coverplates I & III

Your Next Stamp Christmas Release: Tweet Shadow Box Card

Out of all of the cards I have created for this release, this one has to be my favourite. These cute little birds are so perfect for a shadow box card. It took a little while, fiddling and some trial and error to make the shadow box dimensions work. I wanted the card to be the right size to fold and fit nicely inside an A2 envelope. But so worth the effort, I really love how the card turned out with the square shape on the front.

Your Next Stamp Christmas Release SpotLight: Candy Cane Cat

I always love Christmas card making and of course that means I love checking out all the knew crafty supplies to make holiday cards and projects. Your Next Stamp Christmas Release is full of lots of fun stamps, dies and stencils. Which leads me to this question; are you in the “I love stencils camp” or “give me a background die any day of the week” or even “I want it all, stencils and dies”? I have 2 same but different cards. Both use Candy Cane Cat, but one is with zig real clean brush markers and a diagonal stencil the other is Copics and diagonal die. I’d loved to know which one you prefer between the two.
