YNS Challenge #164: Scraps and Getting More From Your Slim Line Dies

YNS Challenge #164: Scraps and Getting More From Your Slim Line Dies

This time the challenge over at Your Next Stamp includes something that I am sure we all have kicking around our craft space and hiding in our crafty drawers: scraps. I have a drawer full of bits and pieces that I have gathered over time. The paper I choose to use was some partially die cut water coloured card stock that I had used with cosmic shimmer pixie powder. The powder has this beautiful pearlized look to it and I love how the colours have other colours buried within. I figured perfect to use with the slim line geometric panel. And for something different and to extend the use of my slim line panel I decided to use it on an A2 size card.

Purple Onion Design: Faux shadow Box

So, I have another card here with the ever so cute new Stacey Yacula release ‘A Happy Little Place’ at Purple Onion Designs.

This time I am experimenting with the idea of a faux shadow box card or is it a shaker card minus the shaker window. Hmmm, I’m not sure! What I do know is that the new Stacey Yacula collection with all the buildings, components and critters are perfect for layers and depth. I used a frame die and layered it many, many times to create a deep frame in order to adhere a small image with acetate mid layers and critter in the front.

There is still a week left to enjoy the special bundle price on the complete 21 stamp collection "A Happy Little Place" (enabler alert) from Stacey Yacula. The set includes a collection of buildings, the adorable critters and “The Around the Town Sentiment set”. This special bundle offer is $105, which is a 30% discount through Friday, May 14th at Purple Onion Designs. Of course all of these stamps can also be purchased separately.

Get the Look:

  • PREP WORK

    • Stamp and colour the bookstore, book rack and Alex.

    • Stamp the bookstore store name a second time with versamark ink and emboss in gold. Colour and cut out.

    • Stamp sentiment in versamark on brown cardstock and gold emboss.

    • Die cut a large frame die about 6 times out of regular thick cardstock and once out of gold cardstock.

  • Layer the gold embossed bookstore sign over the coloured bookstore with foam tape.

  • Adhere the bookstore, and embossed sentiment onto a 41/4”x51/2” piece of cardstock.

  • Time to build the faux shadow box: Glue together a couple of the rectangle frames. Attach the book rack to a piece of clear acetate position and glue book rack to stacked rectangle frames.

  • Layer and adhere the rest of the rectangle frames (including gold layer) ontop of already partially built frame.

  • Position frame over background bookstore and then position and attach Alex.

  • Lastly adhere panel to an A2 card base.

Purple Onion Design: Introducing A Happy Little Place

So, so excited to guest design with Purple Onion Designs and introduce you to the new Stacey Yacula release ‘A Happy Little Place’. With the popularity of slim line cards, it is so cool that there are some multi-storey building stamps. I decided to try both a slim line and A2 size card. So what do you think, do you lean towards the slim line or the A2 version of the card?

Your Next Stamp Fun Folds Series: Day 6

Your Next Stamp Fun Folds Series: Day 6

So typically I am much more of a single layer kinda card making gal. So the Fun Folds series at YNS was certainly a challenge for me. I started out by taking a look in the internet world to see what type of folding card’s are out there. My goal was to create something that still played on my scene building strength and also wasn’t overly complicated or fussy. I happened to come across Jennifer McGuires Pop Up Shadow Box Tutorial from a few years back and thought perfect. Jennifer McGuire also just recently created a new Easy Shadow Box tutorial. Both of these tutorials are great for getting you started with shadow box cards.

YNS Challenge #160: Cool Inspiration

YNS Challenge #160: Cool Inspiration

This time the challenge over at Your Next Stamp includes a photo to inspire you. This challenge with its pretty pinks and greys are perfect for this card design that has been on my list to create since I first saw the slim geometric panel. In addition to the colour inspiration from this challenge the style is very much inspired by the awesome work of Leslie Tieu. She creates the most wonderful patterns and florals incased in beautifully watercolored geometric shapes. If you have a chance you should check her work out.

Also make sure to stop by the YNS Challenge Post and check out the rest of the DT projects as well!
