Easy Way to Create Skinny Strips

Easy Way to Create Skinny Strips

The Ellen Hutson Skinny Stripes die has been around for a while, but it is a new one to me. I love that you can make a very impactful background simply by using the die and some colourful colouring. I could have used colour paper but a) I figured it would be faster to colour strips and b) I certainly don’t have that many colours of card stock to pick from. Conveniently the skinny stripes die is the perfect size for your typical 3 1/2” x 8 1/2” slim line card.

The slim line card I coloured strips with Copics and the other card I blended distress ink onto the die cut strips.

It’s kinda like a birdie apartment building with each branch its own apartment or telling its little story.

Your Next Stamp Release Preview: Coffee Character

Your Next Stamp Release Preview: Coffee Character

Always a fun time to be guest designing for Your Next Stamp. Especially with a new release arriving this Thursday. I had a complete blast playing with this Coffee Character stamp set. I mean who doesn’t need a good set of fun characters enjoying their morning pick me up. And the sentiments are a perfect match. For these cards I wanted each character to be the star of their own card, so I went with slightly smaller 4”x4” panels. I also wanted to give them fun bright backgrounds to compliment the playfulness of the stamps.

The more and more cards I create the more and more I realize I love cards that are full of bright colours and partial to cute scenes. I also enjoy changing up the shape of cards. Think it helps look at stamp sets from a different perspective when they are being placed in a different shape frame. This card certainly has those aspects I love about card making. Colour is layered on with stencils and also with a brightly coloured scene.

Gift set of cards: Single stamp set - Oh My Whiskers

Gift set of cards: Single stamp set - Oh My Whiskers

In addition to creating a birthday card full of kitten cuteness for my friend (last post), I also wanted to create a set of cards for her to use. I don’t always mail my cards, but I do like to pull together a set of cards for my friends as birthday pressies. Continuing to use the Oh my Whiskers stamp set from Honey Bee Stamp allowed for a continuity between all the cards and yet they all use different mediums and styles.
